Mr. Bernie Hanlon
Mr. Bernie Hanlon is the Director of National University Academy. Mr. Hanlon has been involved in public education for 38 years as a classroom teacher, site principal and district superintendent. He has also been an active supporter and developer of charter schools since 1994. He has written and implemented numerous charter programs throughout California. Mr. Hanlon is a strong supporter of providing parents and students with quality academic alternatives to the traditional “one-size-fits-all” educational model.
Mr. Hanlon graduated from Bloomsburg State University in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Education and received his Master's in School Administration from California State University, Fullerton. He also was one of the few superintendents who also held a Master’s in Boardsmanship form the California School Boards Association.
Mr. Craig Van Houten
Mr. Craig Van Houten currently serves as the Director of Career Programs at National University Academy. Mr. Van Houten directs the Career Path High School and the San Diego County California Conservation Corps academic program. He previously served as the Career Development Services Manger at the San Diego Job Corps Center, and in several collegiate administrative positions including director of student services and assistant to the President. Craig earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education and a Master of Education degree in Counseling at Western Montana College, and holds California Community College Counselor and Chief Administrative Officer credentials. He is a member of the Riverside Council for Youth Development, a council of the Workforce Development Board.
